You will be pick up by your tour guide in the early morning (between 6am to 7am), and hop-on coach bus for this fun day trip. About 9:30am, you will arrival beautiful Gubei Water Town, and your tour guide will assist you to purchase entrance ticket. This is a self-guide tour, and you can spend enough time in the Water Town on Simatai Great Wall.

Upon arriving at Simatai, you can hike up the sheer sides of the wall by yourself or ride on a cable-car to the summit (at your own cost). Once you are up there, you will be amazed with how untouched and well preserved this Great Wall still remains since Ming Dynasty. There are almost no hawkers at Simatai, just few windswept old ladies sell postcards, ice-creams and cold bottles of water. The entire Wall is yours, and you can explore it by your own pace. As you walk along the 5.4 kilometer stretch that straddles Beijing City and Hebei Province, you will realize how difficult to build this Great Wall. What an amazing construction! Simatai Great Wall sits on rugged ridge 960 metres above sea-level. It really is an architectural wonder.

After coming down from the Wall, you can start walking around in Gubei Water Town where is a rare natural old town with a combination of mountains, water and ancient dwellings. With a history of thousands of years, this town possesses an old-fashioned simplicity and elegance. Row upon row of houses, old quartzite streets and long Hutongs characterize the style and features of the old town. You can have your lunch in this lovely town (at your own cost).

Your tour is end between 2:40pm to 3:00pm, and you will get on the coach bus again to return back to your hotel in Beijing.

Safe transportation to and back from Gubei water town in a very comfortable vehicle. The driver was extremely punctual for every pickup, and guide Nancy was very helpful and informative. Simatai section of the Great Wall offer stunning view with an easy option of cable cars facility. Reliable, good value of money and strongly recommended.

I was pleasantly surprised by this tour. Chan, our dear guide was a total pleasure. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the Great Wall and at times, very funny. However, my Simatai tour was changed to the Jinshanling Great Wall instead, since that side was closed off. But I can't complain. Upon arrival, you have an have an option to either take the cable car or do the 2 1/2 hours climb to the wall, plus an hour descent back to the bus. I opted for the hike. This part of the wall was amazing there were only a handful of us on and no crowd at all. it was very intense and rigorous, but a great workout and a lot of amazing photo ops. After the hike, we went to the water town. it was very quaint and quiet, but beautiful surroundings. We were also treated to a nice lunch at a local spot near the wall. All in all, it was a fantastic tour and Chan is highly recommended.

Unbelievable. I did this by myself - in the middle of winter. If you are after a safe way to do a self guided trip this is the one for you. Picked up from the hotel, dropped at the wall and left to your devices all day - before meeting at the pre-arranged meeting place. Safe bus, Safe guide. Would recommend to everyone.

This was a great tour. I would recommend taking the gondola up and walking down. This tour requires you to be fit to handle the long walk. Lunch was great and guide did a good job explaining the history.

We chose this tour because it was self guided once we reached our destination. Most of the people on our bus were on a guided tour so we had the benefit of some information about the Great Wall while driving out to the site. We were able to spend as much time as we wanted walking the wall before taking the cable car back into town. The guide gave us excellent information when he suggested walking up and then taking the cable car down as it is very steep and a bit dangerous to walk down. We really enjoyed our time in Gubei Water Town even though it is mostly build new for tourists. We took some really beautiful pictures.
