Over deze activiteit
Departing Hobart we travel across the Tasman Bridge and into the Coal River Valley, an award winning wine producing area surrounding the historic town of Richmond (Oct-Apr). Enjoy an orientation drive through this quaint historic town with a short photo stop at the famous convict built Richmond Bridge. We continue onto the Tasman Peninsula, an area abound with natural bushland, native wildlife and amazing coastal scenery.

At our stop in the Tasman National Park, you’ll be in awe of the wonderful views at Pirates Bay lookout. Great photo opportunity!

Arriving at Port Arthur we have approximately 5 hours to soak up the atmosphere of this World Heritage Site. Visit the interpretation centre and follow the harrowing life of a convict. Join a guided walking tour to learn about the many restored buildings and ruins, including the Penitentiary, Commandant’s House and the Church. Enjoy a cruise on Carnarvon Bay around the Isle of the Dead then back to the Historic Site for free time to purchase your own lunch and explore at your own pace.

We really enjoyed this tour even if it rained towards the end of the day. We were 14 people on the bus and we had a great driver/tour leader who kept us entertained, was funny but more importantly told us some good points on our way there and back from Port Arthur. Port Arthur was so interesting and gave us a great idea of the past and the present time on the site. I recommend this tour.

Sue was our driver and guide. She was knowledgable, thoughtful and made sure we got the best out of the day. A lovely way to see Tasmanias and learn about some of it's history. The museum was fascinating and Icould have spent all day there. The guide who did the walking tour made the history come to life. The bout trip was nice, but nothing special. The golf buggies to take us from site to site were very good as otherwise there is a lot of walking.

Beautiful scenic location full of history. The stories of the convict settlement and the quaint cottages that remain make this a truly magical place.

I had enjoyable few days in Hobart. after checking out the great Salamanca Markets, it is a good place to have a feed and visit the fruit market. I was very impressed with the maritime museum of Tasmania. The next morning I went Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. then went on a bus tour of Hobart leaving from outside the tourism office. Great did a great commentary of the sites and the Botanic gardens was a great way to finish the day. A dinner at the New Sydney Hotel over the road from my hotel went down well. Port Arthur tour on the Greyline bus was a very enjoyable day. We stopped at Richmond to admire the old bridge. Port Arthur was very worth the visit. A very beautiful part of the world. An important part of the colonial history of Tasmania. How the administration of the settlement got convicts to do what they did and maintain order and discipline. You should bring good walking shoes as the site is well spread out. A must see. It is also the site of the death of 35 people on 28 April in 1996 and there is a memorial to those who were killed. On returning to Hobart I had a great Italian dinner at Ciuccio at Salamanca Square. I stayed at Midcity at 96 Bathurst St which was great for convenience.

Fantastic day visiting this former convict prison. The site is amazing and included in your ticket is a 30 minute guided tour and a boat trip around the bay. You have plenty of time to look around the site at your own pace which makes it all the more enjoyable. I would recommend this trip if you are interested in history.
