Een dagtrip van Las Vegas naar de Hoover Dam zou u in alle luxe moeten maken: laat u bij het Las Vegas-hotel ophalen door een chauffeur in een speciaal uitgeruste Hummer H2 en laat u naar de Hoover Dam rijden. Onderweg kunt u een dvd bekijken over de dam voor achtergrondinformatie terwijl u door Boulder City en langs Lake Mead rijdt en de ingang tot de Black Canyon passeert. Als u bij de dam aankomt, bent u klaar voor de Discovery-tour.

Wat kunt u tijdens de Discovery-tour zien en doen?
Cinematische displays: wandel langs foto's, landkaarten, muurschilderingen en displays die het verhaal van de Hoover Dam vertellen. Bekijk de video How the West was Won waarin wordt verteld welke rol het Bureau of Reclamation (Amerikaans federaal agentschap dat zich richt op waterbeheer) heeft gespeeld in het kweken van voedsel en het inperken van de rivieren en woestijn.

De generatoren van de krachtcentrale: ga met de damliften zo'n 152 meter naar beneden langs de muren van de Black Canyon en loop door de meer dan 76 meter lange tunnel die in de rotswand is uitgeboord. U ziet het Nevada-gedeelte van de krachtcentrale. Dit is bijna 200 meter lang en beschikt over acht generatoren.

De tentoonstelling: ga naar het Plaza-niveau en bekijk de tentoonstelling waarin de geschiedenis van de plaatselijke natuur centraal staat en waarin duidelijk wordt hoe de dam vroeger werd bediend en hoe dit nu het geval is.

Vergeet uw fototoestel niet: naast de schitterende uitzichten krijgt u misschien ook nog wat dikhoornschapen te zien.

De totale duur van de tour is inclusief ophalen en afzetten bij het hotel en de reisduur van en naar de Hoover Dam. U hebt ongeveer twee uur op de Hoover Dam

The name is a misnomer: It should be the "Hoover Dam Hummer TAXI". The company in NO WAY provides "ANY PART of a TOUR ." Just provides a RIDE where YOU PAY for GAS get to the Dam! Also don't be mislead about seeing "wildlife" --- NOT! The guide "drops" you off -- gives "confusing directions" then tells you "when and where" to rendevous with them. Do not EXPECT any "CATERED SERVICE" cause there is NONE! The DAM Security / staff are completely in charge as they "coral you around Power Plant like cattle!" In addition, the guide was LATE picking us up which in turn ATE AWAY at time we could have spent actually "WALKING ON THE dam DAM! " --- which is REALLY the BEST PART of the "so-called" TOUR ! One could probably save money by renting a car and just driving themselves --- basically the SAME SERVICE you get from THIS TOUR!

The trip did not get off to the best start as we were told the lifts at Hoover Dam were not working and we could not go inside which was very disappointing. Apart from that we had a great trip and enjoyed the experience. Our tour guide - Randy was an absolute wealth of knowledge on the Hoover Dam , Las Vegas, Boulder and the Mojave desert. He was a really friendly guy , made every feel at ease and made the trip memorable. It didn't take long to get to the Dam and we had plenty of time to explore and take photos. On the way back we stopped in Boulder City and saw the wild Big Horn goats. The ride in the Hummer was great and a very comfortable way to tour. I'd definitely recommend Big Horn Hummer Tours and this trip.

This was definitely worth the cost of the tour! My 9 year old son and I wanted to go check out the Hoover Dam, so I booked online before we left for Vegas. Our guide Tom picked us up at the hotel in the Hummer, gave us a great history of the area and the dam on the way, then gave us specific instructions on how to beat the crowds, where restrooms were, etc. After the tour, Tom was right there to drop us back off at the hotel. Strong recommendation!

Loved every minute! Randy was a great guide. Highly recommend this trip. Very informative and was back in Vegas by noon.
