Tijdens deze dagtour vanuit Londen ontdekt u samen met uw gids de mythen en legenden van koning Arthur en bezoekt u enkele van de bekendste en meest bijzondere plaatsen in Engeland. Vanuit Londen rijdt u in westelijke richting door het prachtige landschap van wat ooit het oude koninkrijk Wessex was.

U stopt eerst in Winchester en betreed de Great Hall, die tussen 1222 en 1235 gebouwd is. Daar binnen kunt u wat volgens velen de oorspronkelijke ronde tafel van koning Arthur is aanschouwen. In de middeleeuwen wist de schrijver van Le Morte D'Arthur, Sir Thomas Mallory, zeker dat dit de echte was en identificeerde hij Winchester als de plaats van Camelot van koning Arthur.

Daarna kunt u een van de meest geheimzinnige plekken ter wereld bezoeken: het prehistorische en wereldberoemde stenen monument Stonehenge. Het hele landschap is bezaaid met grafkamers en steencirkels van duizenden jaren her en is omhuld door mysteries, maar Stonehenge rijst ver boven dat alles uit. Stonehenge, dat op de vlakte van Salisbury ligt en de geheimen van zijn 5000 jaar oude geschiedenis nog steeds niet prijsgeeft, is op allerlei manieren beschreven: als een astronomische klok, als religieuze locatie en als begraafplaats. Uw gids legt uit wat er tegenwoordig bekend is en onthult de theorieën waarover al eeuwenlang wordt gediscussieerd. Denk na over deze theorieën terwijl u rond de stenen loopt en de fraaie vergezichten bewondert.

De tour gaat verder naar het plaatsje Glastonbury, waar zich het geheimzinnige eiland Avalon zou hebben bevonden, de plaats waar volgens de legende het zwaard van koning Arthur is gesmeed. Het was op deze plek dat na de slag bij Camlann de dodelijk gewonde koning Arthur het leven liet. Stop bij de beroemde Glastonbury Tor (een heuvel) en bekijk de ruïnes van St. Michael's Church. Daarna daalt u af naar de Chalice Well Gardens, waar u kennismaakt met een oudere legende, die van de kelk die Jezus Christus gebruikte tijdens het Laatste Avondmaal. Sommigen zeggen dat de Heilige Graal hier in Glastonbury is begraven.

In het plaatsje zelf bezoekt u Glastonbury Abbey, waar koning Arthur en koningin Guinevere zijn begraven, voordat u gaat lunchen in een van de plaatselijke restaurants (op eigen kosten). U brengt het einde van de tour door met een bezoek aan de mysterieuze Silbury Hill, de grootste door mensenhanden gemaakte prehistorische heuvel in Europa. Een passend eind voor een dag vol ontdekkingen.

This rating has nothing to do with the driver/tour guide who was wonderful, but the whole trip. It is a very long day. Most of it driving. Stonehenge is wonderful. I understand why they add on other places since it is a good distance away, but you could just leave off the Avebury stop and spend more time in Glastonbury. I really wanted to stay there longer in fact all the people on the tour except 2 wanted to just stay there. The thing that really irritated me was the two who wanted to go on to Avebury (for the whole 30 mins stop) stayed on the tour van REALLY... This would have been a wonderful trip with just the two stops. I really felt rushed at the stops since the weather was horrible and the traffic was horrible and it was so long.

I've always wanted to go to these amazing sites and I finally got the chance and what made it even more enjoyable was our lovely guide Jose ! He was very informative and funny as well his jokes were hilarious and he was very helpful ! The sites were fascinating! it was an incredible trip that I would definitely reccomend!

The tour guide and driver were great but we didn't get to spend much time at each thing. We almost missed the last stop. I think out of all the stops maybe not stop at the Chalice Gardens....Stonehenge was amazing and I truly enjoyed the Abbey. I just wish we had more time in Winchester. But all in all it was a great day!

We had the most amazing,comfortable guide in our entire life traveling. Oliver was extremely knowledgable as well as flexible as to the groups desires. We had scheduled another event immediately after and to be sure we arrived, he walked us to the venue! International Friends were wonderful.

We had a marvelous tour guide named Tony. He was so much fun and hope to see him next time we come to the UK. He was full of information and you only had to ask to get him to tell you more if you were interested. Sad that Avebury was taken off the tour. Winchester was okay but it was just a brief stop to see a table that was thought to be King Arthur's round table but it's not. I loved Glastonbury! Beautiful area with the Chalice Well, gardens, spring, possible burial place of Arthur and Guinevere and Glastonbury Tor. I loved going into the shops down the street and buying crystals. This was one place that had a multitude of things to see and do that was well worth the time and money. I wish we could have stayed longer. Stonehenge is always great but not this time. It was so cold and windy I could barely walk around the stones once. Luckily I had already done another tour that week when it was nice and warm.
