Stop At: The Food Emporium, 810 8th Ave, New York, NY 10019, USA

We cross 8th Avenue and begin the tour with a dip into Hell's Kitchen, an old tough and dangerous neighborhood. The skyscraper, the first tall building to cross over the avenue, in 1989, will serve as an example for a short discussion on zoning.

Duration: 5 minutes

Stop At: citizenM New York Times Square Hotel, 218 W 50th St, New York, NY 10019, USA

Pass By: BNP Paribas, The Equitable Tower, 787 7th Ave, New York, NY 10019, USA

Pass By: Avenue of the Americas, 1211 6th Ave, New York, NY 10036, USA

The interesting angle of avoiding sidewalks on this tour is in full effect here, we walk through underground corridors along Sixth Avenue below five skyscrapers with some iconic views along the way.

Stop At: Rockefeller Center, 45 Rockefeller Plaza Rockefeller Centre, New York City, NY 10111-0100

We explore below the entirety of this NYC institution that is brimming art, architecture, culture and history.

Philip Johnson's acknowledgement of the post modern movement is on full display in this ironic stoneclad broken pediment.

We absolutely loved this tour. Rob was extremely knowledgeable and we couldn’t have learned more! Probably know more than most New Yorkers now!

Guide was very friendly, personalized experience. President's Day caused most of the underground privately-owned portions of the tour to be closed and thus inaccessible. However, our guide gave us the option to continue with a slight variation of the tour and we were so glad we did! Lots of lesser-known places we'll want to spend more time in on repeat trips.

I thoroughly enjoyed this tour! Rob was a very knowledgeable and personable guide! It was so great to go off the beaten track in midtown! He introduced me to so many hidden gems and had some great stories and information to share on the history and planning of the city. As a town planner and student architect, I thought this tour was awesome and would highly recommend it to other built environment junkies!
