Nadat u bij uw hotel bent opgehaald, stapt u aan boord van de comfortabele papegaaiduikerboot voor een 15 minuten durende vaartocht naar Akurey, een eiland dat beroemd is om zijn populatie papegaaiduikers, net buiten de kust van Reykjavik.
Tussen mei en augustus broeden er papegaaiduikers in holen in de kleine heuvels en hellingen op dit eiland, dat beroemd is vanwege zijn kleurrijke vogelpopulatie. De papegaaiduikerboot is speciaal ontworpen om zo dicht mogelijk bij de rotsachtige kust te kunnen komen, zodat u deze koddige, felgekleurde vogels van heel dichtbij kunt bekijken!
Aan boord vertelt een deskundige gids u alles over de papegaaiduikers en over andere interessante zeevogels die u tijdens uw tocht kunt spotten, zoals de noordse stormvogels, meeuwen, sterns en zwarte zeekoeten. Warm lekker op met een vers kopje koffie terwijl u kijkt hoe de zeevogels nestelen en in de zee duiken op zoek naar voedsel.
Als u bij de kust van Akurey komt, maakt u een rondje om het eiland zodat u alle tijd hebt om de vogels goed te observeren. Vervolgens zet de kapitein de motor af en kunt u ongestoord genieten van de vredige rust midden in de IJslandse natuur.
Er zijn vijf vertrektijden per dag, zodat u het tijdstip kunt kiezen dat het beste past in uw reisplan.

We saw hundreds or thousands of puffins. It was a great experience. It was short but exciting. Very fun to visit the islands where 26,000 puffins live in the summer. what an experience.

We were collected at the cruise port and dropped off at the harbor. Very efficient transfer to "Puffin Express" and a great day, narrated by AnnMarie. Binoculars were provided as well as lifejackets for the little ones. A fun day for all!

Great time! We went early at 8am, and Annemarie was a great guide, sharing with us all about puffins. We got some great pictures, and had the rest of the morning to explore Reykjavík after our boat excursion.

I wasn't familiar with puffins before this tour. Our guide, Vera, did a great job explaining their habitat and our captain took us to just the right place to see lots of them. The tour is quick, one hour, just the right amount of time.

Agreed, you didn't get really close to the island, but you could still get a good look with binoculars (they had some to borrow) or with a very good camera. However, as the birds flew out over the water, sometimes very close, you then got a good look at their colorful plumage. Boat pilot and tour narrator were both excellent in their knowledge and descriptions. Boat got very close to birds on water, occasionally stopping to watch small congregations of birds.

Did this on our last day. Was surprised to see so many Puffins. They were everywhere. Perfect timing for us. I highly recommend if you are interested in seeing Puffins.

Fun trip, cool to get on water and see the puffins. A bit far from the coast so sometimes hard to see when they are on land but for the cost, and something different good value. Tour guides and captain welcoming, very nice, and informative.
