Over deze activiteit
Travel off-the-beaten-path with your guide when you set off from People's Square on your 3-hour food walking tour. Immerse in local Shanghainese culture and cuisine while you weave through the backstreets of Old Shanghai and eat at a mixture of traditional restaurants and street food stands. Along the way, pass by some of Shanghai's last remaining laneway houses, or shikumen. Experience vibrant streets where vendors from Xinjiang and Gansu provinces sell traditional foods. Eight tastings are included, and add up to a full meal.
Sample tasting menu, subject to change:
• Xiao long bao: A classic Shanghai specialty, these dumplings are made with a thin skin of dough and stuffed with a seasoned minced pork.
• Sheng jian bao: Another famous Shanghainese snack food, these dumplings are pan-fried with a doughy exterior and a meat and soup filling.
• Xie ke huang: Crab shell pastry is another Shanghai specialty; the crust is meant to look like a crab shell. Fillings include green onions, pork, crab meat, shrimp, mashed beans, and sugar.
• Chang shou mian: Traditional, handmade Shanghainese wheat noodles served in a meat-based soup. The recipe for these extra long noodles was passed down from a former royal chef.
• Xinjiang (stone-oven naan): Originally from Kashgar in Xingjiang province, these vendors make traditional bread in a stone oven.
• Stir-fried bullfrog: Cooked with green pepper, it's an exceptionally popular local meal.
• Deep-fried wontons: These pork dumplings are served with vinegar: surprisingly delicious.
• Yellow wine: Traditional Chinese wine made from fermented rice.
• Popular Shanghainese desserts

Had a great time walking around in the rain with Sisly. She was friendly and informative and we experienced a wide range of traditional food that we probably would not have chosen by ourselves. We had a great time.
This is the second time I have done the Old Shanghai Food and Walking Tour. In terms of experience and value for your dollar, this tour is second to none. Our wonderful guide Lily was absolutely delightful and we had a blast with her. At first you may think that you will not get full from the samples be ing provided but trust me, you will be full by the end after stopping at 10 locations for authentic Shanghinese cuisine. 10/10 rating for sure!
Our guide spoke excellent English and knew many things about local food history and how these were cooked. She is jolly and kept the tour interesting and happy at all times. She made sure we were having fun and eating a lot.
This tour involves about three hours of walking and LOTS of food! Lily was a great tour guide - enthusiastic, happy, cheerful and had a good command of English. There was almost too much food and perhaps a bit too long for crowded street walking.
It was great to try new restaurants we didn't know about in Shanghai, but it was a little frustrating that we had to wait for a while and fight over seating at every place we visited. Our guide was also not the easiest to understand in English. I'd recommend this tour for first timers to Shanghai.
This tour was absolutely GREAT! Our guide arrived exactly on time at the location stated and toured us around all the little shops that make Shanghai incredible. At first, it seemed the little sample we tried was small and we were hungry, but my the end we were rejecting food as we were stuffed! Gotta say, stir fried bullfrog was fantastic! Thanks Viator!
